Wall-E Movie Trivia

  1. The teaser trailer contains part of Michael Kamen’s score for Brazil (1985). Michael Kamen was going to score another Pixar film, The Incredibles (2004), but died before he could.
  2. Jim Reardon left his position as supervising director of “The Simpsons” (1989) television series to do animation on this film. On the DVD audio commentary for his episode _”The Simpsons: Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo”_, Reardon finally confirmed the title of the film he was working on - prior to that he would only say that it was due in 2008.
  3. The main character’s name is actually an acronym, standing for “Waste Allocation Load Lifter-Earth-class.” EVE stands for “Extraterrestial Vegetation Evaluator” and M-O stands for “Microbe Obliterator.”
  4. Most of the predominantly robot cast of characters is voiced by Ben Burtt through mechanical sounds of his creation.
  5. First instance of a Pixar feature-length film using live-action.
  6. The makers consulted with a live-action director of photography, Roger Deakins, to learn how Deakins would light and shoot a scene if it were a live-action movie.
  7. The film contains numerous references to Apple computers: -when WALL-E is fully charged by the sun, he makes the same “boot up” sound that most of Apple’s Macintosh computers have made since circa 1996. -WALL-E watches his favorite movie every night on the screen of an iPod -The villainous Autopilot’s voice is provided by Apple’s text-to-speech system, MacinTalk -EVE’s sleek design as an evolution of WALL-E’s parallels the sleek iMac design having evolved from the boxy, beige Apple IIe. Steve Jobs, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Apple Computer, was CEO of Pixar until its acquisition by Disney in 2005, and as a shareholder and member of the Disney Board of Directors is still actively involved with the company.
  8. Niagara Falls provided the wind sounds for WALL•E ’s world.
  9. The logo on Eve’s chest that appears after she obtains the plant is the same logo used by Disney Epcot’s The Land pavilion up until 2005.
  10. WALL•E collects numerous objects from the 1960s-1980’s including a VCR tape of Hello, Dolly! (1969) (featured prominently in the film), a Rubik’s cube, and even an Atari 2600 with the game Pong (1972) (VG). Despite the film taking place over 800 years after these objects were created, all the objects are still in working condition.
  11. The last piece of debris that clears away from WALL-E as he leaves Earth’s atmosphere is the Russian satellite Sputnik I, which in 1957 was the first man-made object to be placed in earth orbit.
  12. The protocol that AUTO is programmed to follow is A113, a reference to the animation room at the California Institute of the Arts, where many of the Pixar animators studied.
  13. The end-credit montage not only contains artwork in the style of many ancient cultures, but also mimics specific artists such as ‘Vincent Van Gogh’, Georges Seurat, and Auguste Renoir.
  14. The film has a dedication to Justin Wright, a 27 year old Pixar animator who died from a heart attack.
  15. The name of the ship that the humans are living on is “Axiom.” In logic and math, an axiom is something unquestionable or taken for granted.
  16. Sound wizard Ben Burtt recorded many of the sounds for this film in a junkyard.
  17. The sound of insect clicks was the actual sound of locking handcuffs.
  18. The cockroach chirps were created by speeding up the sounds of a raccoon.
  19. Within the first 5 minutes there is monologue via the holographic billboards, and within 20 minutes Eve and Wall-E have dialogue. There is no “Human” dialogue until about 40 minutes into the movie.
  20. Film shipped to some theaters under the name “Sundaye”.
  21. In the Captain of the Axiom’s cabin, there is a lit curio cabinet with a 1980’s era white NASA Space Shuttle launch helmet with red and blue pin striping.

Wall E movie Full Synopsis

WALL-E is an environmental fable, which through modern cinematic techniques like, minimal dialogue’s and characters communicating through bleeps, leave the audiences with a very powerful message regarding the rampant exploitation of the Earth. The movie opens in 22nd century providing us with the background of what happened in the past. All the economic services on Earth, including the government, were overtaken by a mega corporation ‘Buy and Large‘. Earth became a desolate place for human beings to be in, it could not support life. Shelby Forthright, CEO of ‘Buy and Large’ corporation, developed a plan, in which humans would have to spend the next five years on fully automated starliners. While they would be away, an army of Wall-E robots would compact the waste into skyscraper-like towers for easy disposal, thus making earth livable for humans again. But nothing turns out as expected. What was to be done in five years time, didn’t finish for a long time. Earth was found much more polluted, than expected, thanks to humans. And now, it’s almost seven hundred years that humans have been living aboard the starliners.

As a result, because of micro gravity causing a loss of bone mass, human beings become too obese who can’t do anything without the help of robotic assistance. Their life is totally dependent on robots including activities like piloting the ships, which is handled by their computerized auto-pilots. Humans who have been living this kind of life for a long time are desperately waiting to return to earth and lead a normal life.

On the other hand, on Earth, all the WALL-E units have failed except for one, who is still performing his duty. WALL-E stands for ‘Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class‘. WALL-E has a squat yellow metallic body and sturdy pincers for hands. He doesn’t say much, but his eyes, two lenses perched atop a virtually nonexistent head like a set of binoculars, suggest the all-too-human anxiety he suffers from. Although, now there are no humans left to avail his services, WALL-E, is still busy doing what he was made to do, probably because he doesn’t know what else can he do and this is the only way to kill his boredom. Not to forget, this lonely WALL-E has a friend too. His only friend on this whole Earth is an elegant-looking art-deco-style cockroach who communicates mostly by clicking and cocking his antennae. Another thing that he values the most is a videotape of “Hello, Dolly,”. Although only small portions of the tape appear to be functional, this tape is the only way he learns about human emotions, including love.

One day, while WALL-E is busy in his routine work, he finds a new plant growth in trash. He takes it out and replants it in an old shoe for safekeeping. Later a space ship lands on the Earth from which a sleek robot named EVE, turns up. EVE stands for ‘Extra-Terrestrial Vegetation Evaluator‘. She has been sent to Earth on a mission. Her mission is to find out about any vegetation to be found on Earth, a symbol which will indicate if humans can return to Earth. The moment she lands on Earth, she begins to scan the soil as part of her directive to find plant life on Earth. The moment our lonely WALL-E, sees EVE, a beautiful robot on this lonely planet, he falls in love with her. But EVE is unable to reciprocate his feelings at first, but eventually gives in to WALL-E’s unique personality.

When WALL-E shows her the plant that he had found, EVE’s automatic programming gets initiated, causing her to seize the plant and store it inside her. Automatically another program gets activated which calls for a ship that will take her back to her home, ultimately leading to EVE’s shutdown. WALL-E, unable to understand what has happened, tries his level best to awaken EVE, but to no use. He tries to protect her from all elements thinking it might awaken her. At last, his love for her, makes him take a motionless EVE out on a date. Soon, EVE’s spaceship comes to collect her. WALL-E is in no mood to let his love go like that. He decides to follow EVE to her destination and climbs into the ship’s hull.

He soon discovers that EVE is part of the Axiom’s programming to determine if the Earth is capable of supporting life. Axiom is the flagship of human starliners. It then starts getting clear to him that humans had send EVE on a mission. When the plant sample that EVE took inside her is identified as a positive sign in the ship’s holo-detector they come to pick her up. The ships will now return to Earth with its hyperjump engines on receiving the news that Earth has begin to support vegetation and that now humans can live there. But things are not that simple. At the last moment, the ship’s autopilot, Auto, receives a final directive from Forthright and orders them not to return to Earth. He takes all the necessary measures to stop the plant from being delivered to the holo-detector, by attempting to destroy it. Auto has one of the other robots under his control who secretly steals the plant from EVE and attempts to launch it in a self-destructing escape pod, but WALL-E and EVE are able to recover it safely.

When WALL-E and EVE try to return the plant to the human Captain, Auto who has been given orders by Forthright, rebels and drops the two down a garbage chute into the Axiom’s waste chambers. WALL-E is significantly damaged and the only parts that can save him are those that he had kept on Earth. It is then that EVE realizes her love for WALL-E. She, through her own security recordings, sees how he protected her while she was dormant. She is now very determined to save WALL-E. She realizes that the only way to save WALL-E is to return to Earth in time. And for that they have to get the plant into the holo-detector and initiate the hyperjump. With the help of the humans and other robots, they try to get the plant into the holo-detector, but are continually thwarted by Auto’s control of the ship and security systems.

The Axiom’s Captain is very adamant that Humans should return to Earth and undo the damage that their ancestors have done to Earth, thereby making it a place fit again for humans to live in. He takes the bold step of standing on his own feet and shows the courage to deactivate the evil Auto. They, then place the plant in the holo-detector, which will allow Humans to get back to Earth. Though in the whole process WALL-E deteriorates to an even greater extent.

As soon as they land on Earth, the first thing that EVE does is to repair the gravely damaged WALL-E. Though she is successful in joining the parts of his body but to her dismay she realizes that WALL-E’s personality and memories have been taken over by his waste-disposal program. EVE is heartbroken and mournfully gives WALL-E a farewell “kiss”, resulting in an electrical spark that restores WALL-E’s memory. The two robots embrace happily. On the other hand, Humans who have now realized their responsibilities take their first steps on Earth. They carefully replant the seedling that brought them back, and begin working alongside the robots to restore their home.

Trivia

Originally, Rambo was supposed to hold the M2 .50 caliber machine gun in his hands and fire it, but when fully assembled the .50 weighed 120 lbs. Stallone was still capable of holding and firing it but it was too cumbersome for quick movements, so they mounted it on the back of a jeep instead.
    Averages 2.59 killings per minute.
Julie Benz was cast as Sarah because Sylvester Stallone was a big fan of the TV show “Dexter” (2006) in which she stars.
Ted Kotcheff who directed First Blood (1982), the original of the Rambo series, acts as a technical consultant on this particular installment.
Has a kill count of 236, the most for any Rambo film. read more….

Movie Error

At the end of the finale battle when the the films villain gets sliced open by Rambo, the effect shot of him rolling down the hill after Rambo kicks him is laughably fake. The injury sustained to him required the villain’s upper torso to move almost completely disjointed from his lower torso. The computer-aided effects are sub par, the blood splatter is misplaced on the actor’s body and the movements are impossible. Not to mention the fact that Rambo obviously could not have cut through his spinal cord, which would have made it impossible for the body to move in its disjointed manner.
An unexploded British ‘Tallboy’ bomb from World War II is found in the jungles of Burma. First, no Tallboy bomb was ever dropped in Burma. Further, the purpose of the Tallboy is to quake the earth to shake concrete buildings down, so dropping one in Burma’s jungle would be pointless. Lastly, if a Tallboy had indeed been dropped, it falls at super-sonic speed and is hardened to penetrate concrete structures, embed itself below them, then detonate. It would have been underground, not tangled in branches above ground as if made of balsa wood, for Rambo to easily find. read more….

Goofs

In the beginning map scene, CALCUTTA is clearly spelled CALCUTA.
At the end of the movie Rambo kills the last bad guy by stabbing him in the stomach with his knife and slicing him open, yet a moment later when Rambo kicks him down the hill, there isn’t one drop of blood on his knife.
When one man moves to the tower to get a better shot he is seen using an AKS-47 with the stock completely folded, in the next scene he is firing a basic AK-47 with a fixed buttstock.
The “Tallboy” bomb that is shown in the movie appears only six to ten feet long. A real tallboy is a 21 foot bomb. They also show a rounded end cap on the back of the bomb, whereas the tallboy had a pointed cap after the fins.
After the final gun battle, Sarah leaves her position with the sniper, and we see her move quite a distance away as the sniper lifts his rifle. As they cut to a different angle of the sniper relaxing/packing up, we can clearly see Sarah’s head/hair in the lower right corner of the screen, only a foot or two away from the sniper. read more…..

Memorable Quotes

Sarah: You know you never told us your name.
    John Rambo: John.
    Sarah: Where are you from?
    John Rambo: Bowie, Arizona.
    Sarah: Why’d you leave?
John Rambo: I got drafted in Nam.
    Sarah: And you just stayed?
    John Rambo: It’s complicated.
Sarah: You have family back home?
John Rambo: Father, maybe. I don’t know.
Sarah: Aren’t you curious to see how things might’ve changed back home?
John Rambo: Gotta have a reason for that. read more…..

Movie News

Sofia Mayor Meets His Idol Sylvester Stallone
    September 28, 2008:
Hollywood superstar Sylvester Stallone, who has arrived to Bulgaria reportedly looking for locations for his new Rambo 5 movie, met Sunday Sofia Mayor Boyko Borisov, an ardent fan of Sly.
Borisov is the only politician Mr Stallone is to meet during his short trip to Bulgaria that includes visits to the Nu Boyana film studios and the Worldwide FX company that made the special effects for Rambo 4.
Sylvester Stallone Doing Rambo 5 And 6 And Hopefully No More
    September 15, 2008:
This year’s Rambo gave the world just what it needed - an unnaturally jacked-up sexagenarian doing gory murder on millions of foreigners.
And, make no mistake, Rambo worked on every conceivable level - as a flat-out action movie, as a piece of issue-based social filmmaking, as a way of utterly obliterating the Burmese tourist industry, as a warning against the use of HGH at an advanced age, as a reminder that nobody looks good with a mullet. We could go on.
Rambo 5 and 6 on the cards
September 15, 2008: As we’ve mentioned before on the site, Sylvester Stallone hasn’t been put off by the fact that, er, very few people seemed to like his revival of the Rambo franchise. And not to put too fine a point on it, he’s nipping off to make another one while people are still willing to give him the cash to do so.
Rambo 5, which we suspect may end up being called John Rambo (which was one of the titles that the fourth film went under for a while, before being truncated down to just Rambo), is set to go before the cameras next year, with Stallone once again on directorial duties, having penned the script.

Movie reviews

The film fits in the Rambo tradition and is up to the expectations of each Rambo film. Sylvester Stallone, even after twenty years has not forgotten, what his viewers want from him. Rambo has enough of action, to catch up the attention of its viewers. The plot and story is again smartly done, with no loop holes and cutting edges, from any angle. As far as the acting is concerned, all I would like to say is that, Stallone knows his Rambo too well and can even play him in his sleep. This movie, I would say, if, is not the best, then it is not even the worst. It has a decent storyline, with lots of action.read more….

Rambo Movie Review

  1. It has a decent storyline, with lots of action.
  2. This is one of the best action movies ever made, with some purpose behind the fight. The movie depicts reality, like all other Stallone movies. The story has great meaning, as the action takes place in Burma and one can easily relate to the incidents. The only people who will not like the movie, are the ones, who are not into action, as the movie has hardcore action and fight scenes.
  3. A movie for guys, ladies can stay way from it. Full of action and blood. Agreed that the story-line is not as good as Rocky Balboas, but Stallone has given a solid performance and best action, that doesn’t stop till the end. A must watch for all action lovers.
  4. I was not expecting much out of the movie, but it was great. I don’t have anything negative to say about the movie. From acting to action to graphics, everything was excellent in the movie. This is the best Rambo of the series and is a must watch for the action lovers.
