Synopsis:

In the faraway kingdom of Dor, four unlikely heroes emerge: Despereaux, a brave mouse banished to the dungeon for speaking with a human; Roscuro, a good-hearted rat who loves light and soup, but is exiled to darkness; Pea, a Princess in a gloomy castle who is prisoner to her father’s grief; and Mig, a servant girl who longs to be a Princess, but is forced to serve the jailer. Tiny and graced with oversized ears, Despereaux was born too big for his little world. Refusing to live his life cowering, he befriends a Princess named Pea and learns to read (rather than eat) books–reveling in stories of knights, dragons and fair maidens. Banished from Mouseworld for being more man than mouse, Despereaux is rescued by another outcast, Roscuro, who also wants to hear the tales. But when the Princess dismisses Roscuro’s friendship, he becomes the ultimate rat and plots revenge with fellow outsider Mig. After Pea is kidnapped, Despereaux discovers he is the only one who can rescue her–and that even the tiniest mouse can find the courage of a knight in shining armor.

Reviews

There are very few animated movie sequels that are better than their predecessors but I must admit that I liked ‘Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa’ much more than the original. And since this one starts with a small summary about the part one, it hardly matters if you missed the first installment. All crazy characters are back and then there are some new ones. I admit that it has the usual one- liners and pop culture jokes that afflict all the recent animations but then there are some outstanding gems like madcap rave party tune ‘Move It’. Will. i. am of Black Eyed Peas stirs up a riot in the role of Casanova- hippo MotoMoto (god! I love saying it so much that I have to say it twice). What I find really amusing is that Alex is voiced by Ben Stiller while his father is voiced by Bernie Mac. May be Alex’s dad has more soul. It sort of reminds me of ‘Lion King’ with Alpha males fighting for dominance of pride. I suggest that they should soon come up with a screenplay about penguins. They deserve an independent movie of their own for they stole the show completely. It’s a nice family movie that is fun for kids as well as grown ups.

Recommendations

This zany Madagascar is even better than the previous Madagascar which I absolutely loved. The hilarious journey with Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria and penguins as well as chimps is the best trip to Africa you can have. Come and join the fun with the madcap rave party. ‘Horton Hears a Who’ is a signature evocative and rhyming work of Dr. Seuss whose books have delighted generations of young people around the world. It’s a moving tale of an imaginative elephant, Horton who hears a cry of help from a speck of dust which actually houses the whole city of microscopic beings called Whos. His eight word explanation of his endeavor to save that speck – “a person’s a person, no matter how small”, is both simple and profound. Join us as a member and you can watch as many movies as you want without spending even a single penny.

Synopsis

An insightful and immensely enjoyable ‘Horton Hears a Who’ revolves around a highly imaginative and eccentric elephant, Horton (Jim Carry). Once, while splashing in cool waters of pool to beat the heat of Jungle Nool, Horton hears a feeble cry of help coming from the speck of dust drifting in the air. Unbeknown to Horton, the speck of dust houses the whole city of microscopic Whos, known as Who-Ville led by the Mayor (Steve Carell). Horton protects Whos by placing the speck on a clove and agrees to put it on a safe place despite being tormented and scorned by his neighbors who believe that he has lost his mind. His philosophy is simple and yet profound that a person’s a person, no matter how small. He explains to his skeptical friends “If you were way out in space, and you looked down at where we live, we would look like a speck.” Overcoming many obstacles in the way of fulfilling his promise to save Who-Ville, Horton would finally manage to convince others in his group about the existence of Whos. The only question is if he would be able to do that in nick of time.

Movie reviews

Charming and funny, this animated allegory gets the child in all of us to think big thoughts about small things. I could never imagine that Seuss’s cartoons illustrations can be turned into such crisp and flawless animation. The massage of tolerance comes out loud and clear. What impressed me most was exploration of faith in things unseen which only got passing reference in book but enjoys significant screen time. Interaction between Horton and Mayor McDodd leaves viewers with the impression that faith is not reasonable but it makes one more loving and more responsible. Movie is original and funny to the extend that I almost forgot that it is base on Dr. Seuss book due to creativity of plot and depth lent to the characters. Even at the places where parts of book are implemented, it is cute and not at all forced. The best aspect of the movie is its humor, both its goofy jokes and funny moments at random. Characters of Horton and Mayor are goofy and lovable in their own way. The message in the movie was not corny at all but delivered subtly. The movie promotes imagination and creativity and advocates sticking to ones belief no matter what others say. No matter what is your age, you will laugh out aloud and enjoy this hilarious anime.
