Synopsis

This American movie oscillates between the dark comedy and a subversive satire following the (mis)adventures of a reluctant and sarcastic superhero of modern times. There are superheroes, as we know them and then there is Hancock, the antithesis of all superheroes. His each heroic deed leaves a trail of destruction. And his cynicism is met with jeers by the public who fail to appreciate his good work. But all this changes when he saves the life of a public relation executive Ray Embrey who makes his mission to give public image of Hancock a makeover. But a greater secret from Hancock’s past is about to revealed that will change his life forever.read detailed summary….

When Hancock returns Embrey and his car back to his house just after saving him and then picks up and moves the car onto the drive, you can see the blue crane used in the reflection of the car windscreen.
The locomotive in the train wreck was a low-powered switching engine. Dozens and dozens of rail cars kept piling up, yet that engine would not have been powerful enough to pull such a long train in the first place.read more…..

Warner Bros. passed on the chance to make the film. Sony then stepped in.
The script, originally titled ‘Tonight, He Comes’, floated around in Hollywood for over a decade.
The train wreck scene was filmed in San Pedro, CA, in conjunction with Pacific Harbor Line RR. PHL SD18 diesel locomotive #40 was changed by the movie crews to the fictitious Southland & Western RR.

The amount of spaghetti and meatballs in the bowl, when Hancock first arrives at Ray’s house and is invited for diner, changes between shots.

Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: September 28, 2008
September 28, 2008: It’s a sad Sunday for the Weekend Movie News Wrap Up, with the passing of Hollywood Legend Paul Newman. However, the beauty with Hollywood is that great films and great actors will live on forever. Newman has left a great body of work as his legacy, but lets not forget that the man also was hugely charitable, giving millions away from the profits of his Newman’s Own brand. It’s a real shame.

September 27, 2008: They both run on the same track team. One says that the other is faster and admits that he can’t catch up to him. They go to church together, watch movies together and like the same professional sports teams. They both recently watched “Hancock” and gave the same positive review of the movie.Meet Jordan Bracy and Raashaan Reason, both 13, teammates on the West Mesquite Stampede track and field team. They have been competing against one another in practice and alongside each other at track meets since 2004. And after four years, Jordan came up with this conclusion about his close friend.
    Letters to the editor
September 27, 2008: The use of popular movie quotes has long been part of our everyday conversation. When I recently returned home from vacation, the first words out of my mouth were “There’s no place like home” from “The Wizard of Oz.”At a basket bingo last month a lucky ticket holder was shouting, “Show me the money” from”Jerry Maguire.”When I was a teenager and my mother was tired of hearing my sister and me argue she would say, “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn,” from “Gone with the Wind.
And who hasn’t at least wanted to say, “Go ahead, make my day,” from “Sudden Impact” to someone getting on your nerves. All of these are harmless, with the meaning understood by society.

Movie Reviews

Hancock never made any claims of being a typical superhero movie. We were warned to expect the unexpected. So, here we have a superhero everyone loves to hate and unlike Superman or Spiderman, his all actions are booed by the very people he is trying to save. A very amusing and unforeseen plot which seems very promising in the beginning but tend to lose its thread in the later part of the movie. The movie can be clearly divided into two parts with first indisputably superior to the latter. First part is funny, plausible and fast moving with a lot of action but around the middle, the story changed its tone. From being amusing, it became tragicomedy with lots of sexual tension thrown in.

The back story of Hancock was perceived as deviation from the main plot by many but it is essential in order to understand his psychological make up. His utter hopelessness, his cynicism and his apathy towards others becomes clear once we delve into his past. Hancock is much more real than any other superhero because of his imperfections and is much more lovable because of this very reason. Our perception about him goes on changing as the movie progresses.

Extremely refreshing movie with lots of humor and action thrown in. The drama that comes in the end is added bonus. Will Smith is simply superb and Charlize Theron lends her character a certain poignancy and depth. A must watch even for everyone.
