Movie News
- August 7th, 2008: For once, here’s a box office record that The Dark Knight doesn’t own. According to Variety, the stoner comedy Pineapple Express opened big to the record-breaking tune of $12.5 million, is a new Wednesday record for the month of August.
The David Gordon Green-directed comedy beat out The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, which took in $8.5 million in its August 2004 opening Wednesday.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 also fared well on its opening day, taking in $5.8 million on Wednesday. The first film took in $9 million during its whole opening weekend.
August 6th, 2008: A little while back, Seth Rogen mentioned in an interview that he didn’t want to do a sequel to his acclaimed comedy Superbad, even though Sony was pushing for one. The actor/writer/creator of all things cool announced that he’d much rather do a Pineapple Express sequel. He then went on to say how he could conceivably combine the two titles, and make one super awesome movie where Seth and Evan, home from college for summer vacation, accidentally bump into Dale and Saul. It sounded like the musings of someone with a lot of ideas on his plate. But not a real planned project. But then, during one of the Pineapple Express screenings at Comic Con 2008, Judd Apatow announced to a packed house that this idea might actually become a reality. Now, MTV Movie Blogs has posted a story with excerpts from a recent James Franco interview, and it seems like everyone is quite keen to the idea.
- August 18th, 2008: The movie has only been in theaters for 11 days, but it’s never too early to talk Blu-Ray. Home Media Magazine recently spoke to Pineapple Express co-writer/star Seth Rogen about the film’s Blu-Ray treatment, including a video game that will be included in this 1080p release.
“With Blu-ray you can actually download material onto the DVD from the Internet,” Rogen said. “So I think they’re putting the video game and stuff on the Internet.”
The writer/actor added that this won’t be a high-quality video game but could provide some entertainment at the office.
Movie Reviews
From the trailers of the movie I thought that it would just be another action flick. But the movie was actually a step ahead and gave more than one could just imagine. With amazing action sequence and original stunts that just amazed you, the movie also had marvelous comedy. As far as Franco is concerned I guess he was just amazing in his role and above all I loved him in the comedy scenes of the movie. I think he should stick to comedy.
All in all, I was totally satisfied with the movie and it was very entertaining, with blend of action and comedy. I guess this is one movie I would like to watch a number of times. read more….

August 8th, 2008: Even though I was mildly disappointed in Superbad, I’m still a tremendous fan of Seth Rogen and am pretty excited to find out what’s going to happen with his bourgeoning career as a writer. He co-wrote Superbad, and he’s also co-writer on an upcoming comedy called The Pineapple Express, which reunites him with his former ‘Freaks and Geeks’ co-star James Franco on screen.
August 8th, 2008:Pineapple Express took some strong puffs against a burning box office this weekend, but couldn’t inhale enough to beat out The Dark Knight. With a staying power very few movies enjoy these days, the Batman sequel dropped only 40% from last weekend, bringing in $26 million and holding on to the number one spot for a rare fourth weekend in a row.
August 7th, 2008: It looks like Superbad and Pineapple Express aren’t going to get sequels, no matter how much money they make. Writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg just aren’t interested. Instead, they may do a crossover movie. That’s right, a team-up between the characters of both films in one massive, action flick. It’s like Abott and Costello meet the Mummy, except it’s violent stoners meet drunken, sex-crazed high school kids.
August 9th, 2008: One week after Labor Day officially put summer ‘08 to bed, “Bangkok Dangerous” suffocated it with a pillow, nailed it in a coffin and buried it six feet underground on the way to leading the weekend box office with a pathetic $7.8 million. It was the lowest total for a box-office champ since David Spade’s “Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star” earned $6.7 million in September 2003.
August 15th, 2008: Robinson was charged with three felony drug counts, including possession of cocaine and ecstasy. Up-and-coming comic actor Craig Robinson was arrested June 29 in Culver City, California, and charged with three felony drug counts,

September 10th, 2008: The London Film Festival announced today (Wednesday) that Ron Howard’s Frost/Nixon will open the festival on October 15. It will close on October 30 with a screening of Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire. The festival will also present a screening of the new James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace on the same night as its world premiere, October 29. It said that it plans to screen a record 189 features and 108 shorts.
September 10th, 2008: Even as many critics continued to predict disaster for NBC’s fall lineup, the network claimed the top spot in the ratings for the fifth consecutive week thanks to its NFL and Rnc coverage. The season debut of Sunday Night Football drew 18.35 million viewers, while Thursday’s NFL kickoff game drew 13.53 million. NBC was also the top broadcast network at the Republican National Convention, attracting 8.65 million for its coverage of John McCain’s acceptance speech Thursday night. And its America’s Got Talent trampled the competition on Tuesday night with 10.77 million viewers. Overall, NBC averaged a 5.8 rating for the week and a 10 share. Fox came in second with a 4.4/7. CBS placed third with a 3.5/6, while ABC trailed with a 2.8/5.
September 10th, 2008: A British movie awards ceremony got a jump on all the others Tuesday night when the National Movie Awards, whose winners are decided by popular vote, gave top prizes to Mamma Mia! for best musical; The Dark Knight for best Superhero movie; Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull for best action/adventure film; Juno for best comedy; and Wall-E for best family film. Awards were also given to Johnny Depp for best actor (Sweeney Todd) and Meryl Streep for best actress (Mamma Mia!) The glittery awards show, which aired on ITV1, drew dismal ratings, however, averaging just 2.8 million viewers.

Pineapple Express Users Review
“ya ok, for all u idiots who thought it wasnt funny, why was everyone lauhging to death in the theatre? maybe u should see the film first, then make fun of it “
“Shawnee Smith said it best: “Those that want to be entertained, will be entertained. Those that want to be offended, will be offended.” The hardest I’ve laughed all year. 5-stars. “
“wow! to all the people out there with NO sense of humour - this movie obviously wasn’t made for you. i’d have to say that this was by far one of the FUNNIEST movies i have ever seen… not to mention james franco was F-ing unreal hot!! i have never laughed so hard in theatres or heard so many people laughing so hard in theatres. the people who were offended by this movie or thought that it lacked in creativity and talent etc are so off. i almost take it personally.. but then rememeber that these people probably spend their saturday nights renting the Lord of the Rings trilogoy and tivo-ing Frasier re-runs. and then i feel better. This movie is a classic in the making, totally worth it! “
“the first 30mins was ok, but then the story wears thin, ended up with stupid gunfights. If you like Super Bad, then you will like this, if not, wait for rental or even library for free. “
“Loved it…can`t wait to pick it up on dvd when it comes out..Seth Rogen and James Franco were great..oh and Red too…that guy just wouldn`t die..lol “
“This is an incredibly stupid movie. I think Seth Rogen must have been doped up when he wrote it. I walked out after 45 minutes. I want to sue Seth Rogen to get those 45 minutes of my life back. “
“This is world’s most stupid movie ever. You don’t believe it just go and watch it. But then don’t say me that you didn’t tell me!“
“Very funny, hilarious situations with a great 70’s style vibe, and you don’t necessarily have to be a pot-head to enjoy this movie, although that may help…”it makes everything better, doesn’t it?” lol “
“I love a good “buddy” flick, and the capers in this film brought the laughs! I really enjoyed the film, laughed out loud a whole lot, and the AMC theatre was great.“
“Gotta be the comedy of the summer..I haven’t laughed that much in years, probably ever at the theatre. Definatly telling all my friends to see it and going to see it again myself!!!! Five Stars “
“Amazing movie! So much heart, so many laughs. Most people who don’t like it probably just don’t get it! “
“Enjoyed the movie… it’s been a long time since I laughed so hard during the car chase… Nezia Rosa - OMD Canada “
“Very entertaining. Rogan and Franco are 2 of the most lovable pot heads to ever appear on screen. “
“Very funny movie!!! Some bits could have done with more editing, but overall a great night out for some huge laughs. Think Dazed and Confused with a lot more action. “
“That movie was the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time. Thanks so much! “
“This movie was a comedy, but only made me laugh about ten times during a two hour time frame. The acting was decent, but the script was not very funny at all to me“
“The funniest movie I’ve seen in maybe 15 years. I seldom even chuckle in the theatre, but I must have laughed out loud at least a dozen times “
“It was pretty funny. This is a side of James France we have never seen before. “
“funniest movie i’ve seen since dumb and dumber haha james franco played his stoner role so well never a dull moment “
“This is the funniest movie since HOW HIGH. Its a must see for anyone who likes to laugh. “
