Trivia
Originally scheduled for release in March 2008 to coincide with the Easter holiday. But the 2007 Writers Guild strike caused delays in post-production. The release date was pushed back to July 11, 2008 and finally, October 3, 2008.
The film used the fake working title “A Spiritual Journey” in order to obtain interviews with religious leaders. They did not know that Bill Maher was involved in the film until he arrived for the interviews. read more . . .

Movie News
‘Religulous’ is informative yet hilarious
13 November 2008: Bill Maher’s documentary “Religulous” is an overview of the current problems in world religions. Maher interviews many representatives of different religions throughout the film while exercising his snide sense of humor freely, making “Religulous” very entertaining.
Maher would get his point across better if “Religulous” were more focused. Maher does not focus on any one thing at length. The film jumps all over the place; this is distracting and prevents Maher from getting his point across as effectively as possible.
Film exposes religion’s ‘ridiculous nature’
13 November 2008: I recently saw Bill Maher’s movie, Religulous, and was impressed to finally discover a movie that depicts the way I feel about religion.
I attended on opening night and was pleasantly surprised to see how full the theatre was and how responsive the audience turned out to be.
At the end of the showing the audience applauded, something we don’t often see after any movie.
REEL CRITIC: Film will offend, but it’s funny
12 November 2008: Atheists and agnostics, your prayers are answered with the release of “Religulous,” a comedy disguised as a documentary and hosted by your spiritual leader, Bill Maher.
This low-budget new release is offensive, insightful and controversial. It’s also the funniest movie I’ve ever seen on the polarizing subject of religion. read more . . .
Movie Reviews
This is one movie I am sure not everyone will like. I don’t think Maher, through his this work, is trying to play unfair. He is just telling us to question our beliefs and see how factual or sham they are. He is just trying to tell us to question the rituals that we are following through centuries to see if they are relevant in today’s world. And I don’t think that questioning is wrong. Though, the movie takes on all these serious questions but is very funny too. Maher’s sense of humor plays through out the movie and entertains its viewers. I would recommend this movie to all, especially if you want to see religion from a different perspective. read more…
