WALL-E Gets Some Tunes From Peter Gabriel
I’m terribly excited over WALL-E. Pixar has shown that they can do no wrong so far, and this year’s release doesn’t look to change that at all. Every glimpse we get of the little robot, from his newfound place in the Pixar logo to the Super Bowl commercial featuring Buzz Lightyear and Woody talking about WALL-E just excites me more and more.
Wall-E Goes Over Well At WonderCon
Pixar has won me over time and time again with their philosophy of character driven stories. There are so many studios out there who would grind out movies just because they could create computer animated films, but Pixar continues to focus on characters and stories first and impressive visuals secondly, which results in them delivering both in joyous little packages.
Adam McKay Wanted To Make Wall-E
At this point it seems like we know what Adam McKay is good at—directing silly, irreverent comedies, most of them starring Will Ferrell, that make us all laugh hysterically. But it seems McKay had plans to make something totally different—that is, until an adorable robot got in his way.
”Honestly I went and saw Wall-E, and I was bummed out.” McKay is probably the first person in the world to say that, but he has good reason. “I was like, ‘Aw, shit. That’s really good.’ They kind of covered some of the area I was going to play around with.” McKay was planning what he calls a Brazil-type comedy, with some of the same elements as Wall-E– specifically the people on the spaceship with the TV screens, floating around in hoverchairs.

Wall-E robot can really boogie
September 24, 2008
Sounds like WALL-E has learned a few new tricks since his summer movie debut. This remote-controlled replica of our new favorite robot is packed with original voice work from the film. It also plays music from any MP3 player, features eyes that light up and blink, and can be programmed to execute more than 1,000 different action sequences. With built in motion sensors, WALL-E can dance, follow you around the house or explore the environment on his own. Start stockpiling your trash now, so he’ll have plenty to clean up.

On Movies: Harris gets back in the directorial saddle
September 28, 2008
It took him eight years, but Ed Harris finally got to direct another movie. Appaloosa, a loping, likable Old West yarn about friendship, power, corruption, and a woman with fierce instincts for self-preservation, is something the four-time Oscar-nominated actor cottoned to (as they say in those oaters) when he read Robert B. Parker’s novel back in 2005.

‘An unadorned man . . . direct and honest’
September 28, 2008
Paul Newman and A.E. Hotchner lived about 10 minutes from each other in Westport, Conn. Longtime friends, they owned boats together. “As a matter of fact,” Hotchner said Saturday in an interview, “a couple of wretched boats.”
They would go out on Long Island Sound, drinking beer and scaring the fish. “We were terrible fishermen,” he said. “We’d get out there in the middle of the sound, and then it [the motor] would poop out,” Hotchner said. “The police would say, ‘Those two guys have to be towed in again.’ There’s this major movie star being towed in by the police.”
