The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian Full Synopsis

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian begins with a new strife in Narnia. In Narnia, 1300 years have passed since the Pevensie siblings left the magical land. The movie opens with Doctor Cornelius informing Caspian, prince of Telmarine, also the original heir to the throne that his aunt has given birth to a boy child and his life is in danger. Knowing that his uncle Miraz will now hatch a plot to murder him in order to be the king, he runs away to save his life. But before he flees, his mentor, Doctor Cornelius, gives him the Queen Susan’s ancient magical horn and instructs him to blow the horn whenever he thinks his life is in danger. He tells him that this horn will lead him to summon help.

As Caspian runs for his life, he is followed by his uncles’ men, Telmarine soldiers, who want to kill him. During the chase, Caspian falls off the horse he is riding on and encounters two Narnian dwarfs and a talking badger in the woods. They are actually trying to save him and one of the dwarfs even sacrifices his life for the prince. The other dwarf Nikabrik and the badger Trufflehunter save Caspian’s life. But Caspian thinks that they too want to kill him and he hurriedly blows the magical horn in order to summon help and to save his life.

Far off, in the actual world, only a year has passed as compared to the 1300 years of Narnia. The scene then shifts to England, where we see four Pevensie children waiting for their train at the Strand tube station, which will take them to the boarding school. As soon as the train pulls into the station, the walls start sucking in, and the whole station is torn apart which takes the Pevensie children back to Narnia. This all is the result of the horn blown by Caspian in order to gather some help. When these children are pulled back into Narnia, they realize that nothing is same and that the magical land has lost all its magic. To their surprise, 1300 years have passed in Narnia. They discover that their castle, Cair Paravel, was attacked and ruined in their absence. While the four are walking around the ruined Narnia, they save a bound and gagged Trumpkin, who was about to be killed by the Telmarine soldiers. After they save him, the dwarf recognizes them as the kings and queen of the old and they all start walking together. On their way, Lucy gets a glimpse of Aslan. She tries to convince the others that she has seen him, but only Edmund believes her.

On the other hand, Nikabrik and the Trufflehunter take Caspian to the Dancing lawn, where all the old Narnians have assembled. The old Narnians include a huge number of centaurs, fauns and minotaurs. There prince Caspian convinces them that he needs their help to get his throne back and that only then he will be able to return their land to them. Soon, Caspian and his troop meet the Pevensie siblings and Trumpkin. They all join hands to fight the evil Miraz and get back the glory of Narnia. Together they move to Aslan’s How, a huge underground hall built over the Stone Table. Once they reach the How they decide that they will attack Miraz’s castle from there only. Peter, then, takes the decision that it is the right time to attack while Lucy suggests that they should wait for Aslan’s orders. But Peter does not have the patience to wait for Aslan and says that they have already waited too long and that its time for some action.

Next, we see that the Narnians are able to get inside Miraz’s castle and also engage in a fight with them. But, soon Peter realizes that if they will keep on fighting, then they will all be killed. So he takes the decision of retreating in order to save everyone. While trying to get out of the castle, only half of the Narnians are able to escape and the other half are trapped and killed by the soldiers. When the Narnians get back to the Aslan’s How, both Caspian and Peter feel guilty at the loss of half of their men. They both get into an argument about the attack on the castle and are almost ready to fight each other. Whereas, in the castle, the councilmen and the lords are all busy making arrangements to crown Miraz as the king of Narnia.

In the How, Nikabrik, a hag and a werewolf try to convince Caspian that they are the only ones who can help him get back his throne and he can also kill Miraz if he follows their saying. Caspian who is too desperate for his throne agrees to do what they tell him to do. The hag, then, uses black sorcery to summon the White Witch. From inside a wall of ice, the Witch tries to convince Caspian, who does not realized what Nikabrik’s true intentions are, to give her a drop of his blood in order to set her free. Peter, Edmund, Lucy, and Trumpkin, somehow, arrive on time and they ask Nikabrik, the werewolf, and the hag to leave. Edmund, then, shatters the wall of ice before the Witch can be freed and is able to save all from the clutches of the Witch.

Soon afterwards, Miraz and his army arrive at Aslan’s How to fight Caspian and his soldiers. As Caspian and all others are not ready for this, they will now soon have to decide on a plan in order to win over Miraz. Caspian suggests a plan in which Peter should go to fight a duel with Miraz, till the condition of surrender. This will give Susan and Lucy time to find Aslan, who is their only hope. When the challenge is thrown to Miraz, he has no option but to fight Peter as it would be very embarrassing to refuse a boy half his age. Susan and Lucy who are looking for Aslan in the woods are followed by Telmarine soldiers. Susan, then, sends Lucy to look for Aslan and she herself stays behind to fight the soldiers. While she is fighting the soldiers, Caspian comes to her rescue and then they both return to the battlefield. In the battlefield, Peter and Miraz fight each other. Peter is able to wound Miraz, but he hands over his sword to Caspian to finish him off. Caspian is unable to kill his uncle and spares his life after Miraz agrees to hand over Narnia to its people.

As everything is going well, Lord Sopespian suddenly stabs and kills Miraz with one of Susan’s red-feathered arrows. To provoke Telmarine soldiers, he blames the Narnians for shooting Miraz, though he has personal motives in doing so. The Telmarine cavalry charges while the troops use their trebuchets at Aslan’s How, in order to take revenge. The Narnians try several tactics, including collapsing underground tunnels underneath the army, and sending griffins overhead with archers in their claws. On the other hand, finally, Lucy is able to find Aslan in the woods. To fight the Telmarine soldiers, he takes the help of the nature around him. He awakens the trees that have been in a deep sleep. Suddenly, the whole forest attacks the Telmarines. Lord Sopespian orders his army to retreat to a bridge, where they are confronted by Lucy and Aslan. Aslan, then, summons the river god, which destroys the bridge and wipes out the majority of the Telmarine army including Lord Sopespian. Now, that their master is dead soon, all of the surviving Telmarine soldiers surrender and hand over their weapons. On the other hand, Narnians are honored for fighting well. Finally, the magic land is back in the hands of its original heir and soon, the glory and magic of Narnia will return.

Now, that all is settled in Narnia, its time for the King of the old, Pevensie siblings, to return to their world. But before their departure, Peter and Susan declare to all, that Aslan has told them that now they can never return to Narnia. Edmund, Lucy and Caspian are very disheartened at this news. Aslan, then, explains them that they have gained every possible experience in Narnia and now they are no longer needed there. Knowing that they can never return to Narnia, Susan and Caspian share a kiss. Pevensies then leave the Narnia with Caspian as the king. The movie ends as the children return to England.
